Forum report: IMD and Grosvenor Business Forum in October

Nadeem Khan, PhD student from NBS attended the IMD and Grosvenor Business Forum on 15th October 2012 at which IMD President Dominique Turpin presented – “Leading with a Global Mindset”.  The forum was attended by delegates from Industry along with IMD alumni and invited guests.

The essence of the Key Note speech highlighted the critical difference between international and global firms and identified global leaders as being/or having 8 traits: Open minded, sensitivity and empathy, the ability to connect, respect for others, cultural curiosity, multi-lingual, willingness to experiment, cosmopolitan.

Global Leaders need to recognise their lead markets for tomorrow and position their firm / organisation accordingly. The presentation highlighted that the leading organisations of tomorrow are building human capital by introducing diversity within their boards, as the global marketplace is so interconnected and ever changing. The Global Corporation needs a balance of internal know how (internal development) and global exposure (experience within broad countries). Thus the 21st Century can only be global if its Board is exposed to global diversity as part of the nurturing process and has access to a full talent pool within markets.
