Holocaust Memorial Day 2016

On the afternoon of Friday 22 January, the university will mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The afternoon’s events will feature a talk by a leading expert on the Holocaust, Professor Tom Lawson, as well as a contribution from a current Research Student, Siobhán Hyland, on her research project related to war criminals and the Holocaust.
The event starts with a ceremony at 12.30 outside the main cafeteria on Park Campus, and moves to Sunley Conference Centre from 1.00 where there will also be a buffet lunch.
The event is open to staff and students across the university, and the public too.

CFP: 19th annual Dilemmas for Human Services International Research Conference

Northampton Business School is holding the 19th annual Dilemmas for Human Services International Research Conference from 12-14 September 2016. The link for the call for paper to the Conference 2016 is here.
The Dilemmas conferences date back to 1995, and are organised by researchers working at Keele University, Staffordshire University UK, the University of East London UK, Luleå University of Technology, Linköping University, and Linnaeus University, Sweden and now Northampton Business School. Theme of this year’s conference is change management and most of the discussion will be around managing change from different perspectives (Challenges, Ethics, Gender,……).

Provision of professional doctorates in English HE institutions
A review of professional doctorates was commissioned by HEFCE and carried out by the Careers Research & Advisory Centre Ltd and the University of Brighton. The report provides an overview of the current landscape of professional doctorates across higher education institutions in England.
The report might be of interest to those leading and delivering professional doctorate programmes as well as current and potential students.

The UK Data Service has just released its 2016 programme of webinars. These introduce different aspects of the service and explain their key datasets.

Research Internship Opportunity
The project
Currently, there is limited evidence of the impact of engaging in, and completing, NHS Digital Badges on children, young people and their teachers. The focus of the evaluation will be to investigate the psychosocial impact of NHS Digital Badges on children and young people and teachers within a primary school setting.
Aims are to:
- explore children and young people’s experiences of engaging in, and completing, digital badges;
- investigate the psychosocial effects of participating/completing digital badges with peers and teachers.
Researcher wanted for reference management review
The Library and Learning Services Research Support team would like to recruit a University of Northampton PhD researcher to work on a review of reference management and citation software provision at the University.
The project will primarily involve the gathering and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, focusing on staff and postgraduate experience and requirements regarding reference management. There will also be an opportunity for the PhD researcher to mentor an undergraduate URB@N student researching the undergraduate experience.
The project runs from Jan – July 2016, with an anticipated 50 hours researcher input and a payment of £600 on completion.

Workshop for research students approaching Transfer of Registration
The Graduate School are running a Development Day on Thursday 14th January for research students approaching or preparing for their Transfer of Registration. Our Pre-Transfer Development Day includes 3 workshops: Preparing for Transfer, Create your own data management plan, and Communicating your Research: Preparing for the Transfer viva and seminar.
