3-minute-thesis: call for applications!
3-Minute Thesis© (3MT) is a worldwide competition in which PGRs are asked to condense their thesis into a three-minute presentation with one simple slide! This year we are running our 3MT competition online at the UON Research Conference on Weds 26th June 2024 at 1pm. Whether you are full time or part time, studying for a PhD, MPhil, DBA or Professional Doctorate you can apply. You just need to have passed through the Transfer stage (or are just about to) or have moved into the research part of your professional doctorate or DBA.
Deadline for entry forms and slides is Tues 18th June. Please email your slide to lina.elazhab@northampton.ac.ukby 5pm on Tues 18th June.
The winner of our 3MT will have the opportunity to represent UON and present at the East Midlands Doctoral Network (EMDoc) 3MT Competition later in September, which will also be held online.
If you need some training for 3MT, there is a recorded webinar in NILE RES003 Graduate School Resource Bank (you can find this in your Courses in NILE). Go to the pink ‘Skills: Communication and Engagement’ button and scroll down to Preparing for 3MT.
Rules of entry are as follows:
- A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any description are allowed.
- Timing will be recorded – you have only 3 minutes.
- The slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration and shared on screen via Collaborate.
- No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
- No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
- Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are marked down.
- Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
- Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through either movement or speech.
- The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.
Please complete this entry form, including the title of your presentation. Please write a catchy title for a general audience, it should not be the title of your thesis. Please make sure your presentation is suitable for a general audience and is in plain English!
