Professor Stef Craps announced as keynote for ‘Decolonizing Trauma Studies’ Symposium
The Centre for Contemporary Narrative and Cultural Theory at the University of Northampton School of The Arts is very pleased to announce that Professor Stef Craps (The University of Ghent) will be giving the keynote lecture for the ‘Decolonizing Trauma Studies’ symposium at Avenue Campus (Room MY120) on 15 May 2015.
English announces major international Brigid Brophy conference for October 2015
The English Division at the University of Northampton School of the Arts is very pleased to announce the full programme for the forthcoming Brigid Brophy conference on 9th and 10th October 2015. In the words of Professor Richard Canning, organizer of the conference, the event will, “celebrate all aspects of Brophy’s literary career, as well as her leading contributions to animal rights, vegetarianism, anti-vivisectionism, humanism, feminist politics and advocacy of the Public Lending Right.” The conference will feature keynote lectures by author of The Northern Clemency and The Emperor Waltz, Professor Philip Hensher (Bath Spa University), Goldsmiths Senior Lecturer in Modern Literature, Dr Carole Ann Sweeney and British writer, psychologist, and animal rights advocate, Dr Richard Ryder. Violence: Children, family and society conference 2015

First call for papers (first call closes 31st March)
We invite submissions for a 3 day conference exploring violence, to be held at the University of Northampton, 24-26 June 2015.
Violence is part of the daily lived experience of many people round the world. As a tool of domination and control, it impacts negatively on people’s health, mental health, interpersonal relationships, harms communities and produces a range of sociopolitical effects. This three day conference aims to provide an interdisciplinary and multi-professional context to consider the experience and impact of violence on children, families, individuals and society. We will also consider interventions and responses to violence at individual, interpersonal, community, political and social levels.

The next psychology seminar will be on Wednesday 25th February at 3.30pm in F43 with refreshments from 3:15pm. The speaker will be Dr Peter Lovatt from the University of Hertfordshire. Below is his title, abstract and a brief biography.
Title: The Psychology of Dance: Studies in problem-solving and Mood.
Abstract: In this talk I will introduce several areas of Dance Psychology and describe the work of the Dance Psychology Lab. I will describe our work on the relationship between dance and problem solving and on dance and changes in mood/health. In both of these areas we have carried out lab-based research and extended/applied our work to people with Parkinson’s disease. I will also discuss some of the challenges people experience when they are asked to dance. Not everyone, it seems, feels like they are born to dance. Read the rest of this entry

Holocaust Memorial Day Event Tomorrow – 21st January 2015
Please note that in order to attend Professor Cesarani’s lecture and the subsequent academic talks in HLT1 from 1pm – 4pm, all University of Northampton members are required to bring their staff and student IDS to this event.
Bookings for members of the public have now been taken. There will be no admission of members of the public to the lecture hall without prior booking.
Professor David Cesarani OBE to give Holocaust Memorial Day Lecture at the University of Northampton
On Wednesday 21st January at 1pm in Holdenby Lecture Theatre 1 , Professor David Cesarani OBE (Royal Holloway, University of London) will give the University of Northampton’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day Lecture on ‘The Second World War and the Fate of the Jews.’
