SPSS workshops for Postgraduate Researchers

The SPSS 1 beginner’s workshop is now rescheduled for Monday 18th Dec from 2-4pm in the IT Training Room. This workshop is facilitated by Paul Rice and has two parts; the follow on workshop will be held on 8th January 2018 from 10-12. Please note that you need to have attended part one (or have the appropriate skills in SPSS) to attend part two. There will be homework to do between the two workshops.

SPSS 1 beginnner’s workshop takes place on 18 Dec 2017, from 14:00 to 16:00 in Library IT Training Room, Rockingham Library, Park Campus. Please use the link to book.

SPSS 2 (follow on workshop from 18th December) takes place on 08 Jan 2018, from 10:00 to 12:00 in Library IT Training Room, Rockingham Library. Please use the link to book.

Images of Research: deadline extended to 29th November

ior imageIf you haven’t entered Images of Research yet but wanted to, then we are pleased to announce that we have extended the deadline for submitting your image, summary and title. Don’t miss out on your chance to raise your research profile, engage a public audience and disseminate your research in an annual event that challenges all researchers, including postgraduate research students and academics, to illustrate their work with just one unique image. October 2017 PGR Induction Week

Photo of InducteesOn the 23rd October 2017, the Graduate School team ran the four day biannual induction programme welcoming twenty six new postgraduate research students who joined the University of Northampton this year. The head of the Graduate School Prof. Ian Livingstone started the programme introducing the Graduate School members and explaining their roles.

This was followed by different informative sessions ranging from responsibilities of the research student, the supervisor and the institution, research degree processes and procedures, research integrity and preparing for a research degree. Reflecting on those sessions, a student said: “I found it very useful and really important information”.

Research Seminar: “Condition Monitoring and Fatigue Life of Pipeline Girth Welds”

You are cordially invited to Ayodeji Olamide’s research seminar entitled “Condition Monitoring and Fatigue Life of Pipeline Girth Welds” on Monday, 18th December at 14:00 in NW101 in Newton, Avenue Campus . Ayodeji is a student at the Faculty of Arts , Science and Technology and the aim of his study is to develop a parametric computational model to predict fatigue crack life and aid a better understanding of embedded and surface cracks in ultra-deepwater pipeline girth welds.

Grounded Theory Forum

grounded-theory-forumThe first Grounded Theory Forum meeting is led by Fiona Barchard on 11th October from 1-3pm in S036. The topic of discussion will be ‘The trials and tribulations of Constructivist Grounded Theory analysis’.

Graduate School’s Annual Postgraduate Research Conference 2017

ghazzalaConnected Communities: Diversity at UoN was the theme of the Graduate School’s annual Postgraduate Research Conference which was held on 19th September 2017. The conference was an excellent opportunity for research students from every stage in the doctoral process to share, discuss and network with other research students and supervisors from across the University. The key note address was given by UoN Chair of the Board of Governors, Andrew Scarborough who said he was impressed with the breadth and variety of research. Read the rest of this entry

The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Fellowship and Grant Competitions in Buddhist Studies

BLOG PICThe American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) invites applications in the 2017-18 competition year of The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Program in Buddhist Studies. In cooperation with the Foundation, ACLS offers an integrated set of fellowship and grant competitions supporting work to expand the understanding and interpretation of Buddhist thought in scholarship and society, to strengthen international networks of Buddhist studies, and to increase the visibility of innovative currents in those studies.

Deadline for submission of fellowship applications: November 15, 2017.

Deadline for institutional applications for New Professorships: January 10, 2018.
