Workshop: Preparing Bids for Small Grants
Aims of the workshop:
This workshop supports all staff who wish to develop their skills at preparing small bids. However, this event is specifically aimed at staff who wish to apply for the Learning Enhancement and Innovation Fund (deadline: 22 September).
Day 1: Monday, 8 September, 10.00 to 12.00, Cottesbrooke 303
Day 2: (optional) Monday, 15 September, 9.00 to 12.00 (30-minute, individual consultations)
Facilitators:
Day 1: Bethany Alden Rivers and Helen Backhouse (University Bidding Officer)
Day 2: Bethany, Helen and Ming Nie (Coordinator of the Learning Enhancement and Innovation Fund)
Objectives of the workshop (Day 1):
- To clarify the call for proposals
- To provide insights into evaluation criteria
- To develop capacities for writing clear research questions that are appropriate for short projects
- To explore ways of contextualising research questions with literature and reflection on practice
- To understand better how to write clear aims and objectives
- To consider how to design the project (including research methods, ethical considerations)
- To introduce project management methodologies for short projects (milestone management and work package delivery)
- To consider how evaluation, dissemination and impact will be addressed
- To provide guidance on how to prepare costings
Objectives of the 1:1 consultations (Day 2):
- To address specific questions
- To give formative feedback on draft proposals
- To sharpen ideas through dialogue
- To help establish clear action points for completing the final draft
