PGR Induction week: Small but perfectly formed!
Last week saw the induction of 13 new postgraduate research students to the University of Northampton’s doctoral cohort. Throughout the four days the group participated in presentations, workshops, networking sessions and met with a diverse team of University staff from support departments and Schools.
The 4-day biannual Induction Programme is run by the Graduate School in March and October and is compulsory for all research students starting out on their PhD or MPhil. The Induction aims to launch research students into their studies by offering them a variety of workshops and talks, covering processes and procedures, skills development and support, researcher’s library resources, copyright and much more. The students also get a chance to give a presentation on their research topic and meet members of staff in the university who can support them along the way.
Feedback from the programme was excellent. One student commented “Nothing but positive comments…. I leave the Induction with extra confidence about my practice”. Another said that the sessions “were very informative and were what we need [at this stage] as PhD students / early researchers”. The next PGR Induction programme will run from Tuesday October 27th to Friday October 30th.
