PGR Cost of Living Bursary
The University of Northampton recognises that the cost of living crisis presents challenges to students who are studying here, and is developing a number of initiatives to support you. The Graduate School has therefore designed a new scheme, the PGR Cost of Living Bursary. This is intended to provide some support to PGRs who are struggling financially, by awarding grants of £500.
The application form is here, which contains details about eligibility and how to apply. The deadline for applications is 2 December and completed applications should be emailed to Laura Pereira. If you have any queries, you are welcome to email Matthew McCormack for advice.
Explore the UK’s museums for just £5
Museums and galleries offer a unique cultural experience, but ticket prices can often be unaffordable for regular visits. Fortunately, the Student Art Pass offers free or reduced-price access to arts experiences across the UK, and an opportunity to get involved with a variety of museums and arts organisations. It lets you dive into culture on a budget with free entry to hundreds of museums and galleries across the UK, and 50% off major exhibitions.
You’ll gain access to paid arts opportunities and grow your network by joining the #WeAreArtful @StudentArtPass community. The Pass costs just £5 for a year and is available for a limited time until 12 December to all full-time students studying any subject. You can get your Student Art Pass here.

When: Tuesday 24th May 2022 10:30am-4:15pm;
Where: CH105, First floor, Creative Hub, Waterside Campus
The Graduate School is pleased to announce the first Update Day since June 2019. Annually, prior to the pandemic, we have held this day for postgraduate researchers and their supervisors to get together to discuss topics of relevance via workshops. And, just as importantly, to provide a space for both parties to meet, discuss issues and support each other – and enjoy a nice lunch.
This year’s workshop sessions will be on Equality and Diversity for Researchers and a discussion session on doctoral study and supervision in a post-Covid environment. As well as Update Day, we’ll be holding our annual PGR Poster Competition. Please add the event into your calendars. For more information, the schedule and to book a place see the Gateway page.
Reminder – only a few days left to enter into Images of Research!
The Graduate School’s Images of Research (IoR) competition Call for Images will close on March 31st – so do get your entry in soon! For the Call for Images article see https://researchsupporthub.northampton.ac.uk/2021/12/08/dust-off-your-cameras-dig-out-your-sketchbook-images-of-research-is-back-in-2022/
If you are a researcher (staff or research student) at the University of Northampton, why not take part? Pick up your camera or paintbrush and produce a unique image which captures the essence of your research, or an element of your research, in a visual, artistic or photographic way. Top that off with a snappy title and 150 word summary and that is all you need to do to participate. See the IoR 2021-22 Rules and Guidelines for how to apply.
This year’s IoR will, again, be a double competition, where viewers can vote for their top three favourites and an expert judge will also choose their top three. Entries (see below) must be emailed to Simone Apel by the extended close date of March 31st 2022.
