Research Seminar: “Condition Monitoring and Fatigue Life of Pipeline Girth Welds”

You are cordially invited to Ayodeji Olamide’s research seminar entitled “Condition Monitoring and Fatigue Life of Pipeline Girth Welds” on Monday, 18th December at 14:00 in NW101 in Newton, Avenue Campus . Ayodeji is a student at the Faculty of Arts , Science and Technology and the aim of his study is to develop a parametric computational model to predict fatigue crack life and aid a better understanding of embedded and surface cracks in ultra-deepwater pipeline girth welds.

Graduate School’s Annual Postgraduate Research Conference 2017

ghazzalaConnected Communities: Diversity at UoN was the theme of the Graduate School’s annual Postgraduate Research Conference which was held on 19th September 2017. The conference was an excellent opportunity for research students from every stage in the doctoral process to share, discuss and network with other research students and supervisors from across the University. UEA Online Training Series for PGR’s 2017-18

If you are looking for training courses to enhance your research skills and prepare for your post-PhD life, then the University of East Anglia (UEA) is offering online research and professional training series for postgraduate research students in a Live-taught online format. This online training is organized in five modules on the following topics: Academic writing, qualitative research skills, finishing your PhD, teaching skills and quantitative research skills. The overall series of 29 online training sessions can be available to all PGR students for £70 per session. All you need to know about the context, rationale and delivery of the training, the benefits for you and the potential costs involved is found in the UEA Online Training Series for PGR’s Brochure (1).

Since we are in the last few months of the development programme 2016/17, this is a gentle reminder of the attendance, cancellation and booking guidelines for our workshops.

As you know, all the workshops are found via the Gateway Calendar and you just need to click on the Green dot ‘Respond ‘and then Choose ‘Attending’ to register on a workshop. You have the option to write a note, for instance if you know you are going to be late arriving at the workshop. Please remember that by registering on a workshop you are committing to attend, our facilitators spend hours preparing and then delivering the material to an expected number of students beforehand.  Read the rest of this entry

Inaugural Research Ethics Seminar

The Research Ethics Committee has established a series of seminars to bring researchers together to discuss current and best practice in research ethics. The seminars are for any staff or postgraduate research students. Each seminar will discuss paper related to research ethics. The first meeting will take place on 1st June 2017, from 12:00 to 13:30 in Top Lodge Conservatory, Park Campus.

This inaugural meeting will discuss the following paper:

Reubi, D. 2012. The human capacity to reflect and decide: Bioethics and the reconfiguration of the research subject in the British biomedical sciences. Social Studies of Science. 42(3): 348-368.

Please come along prepared to discuss the selected paper with others from a diverse range of academic disciplines.

Research Integrity and Ethics compulsory online courses for research students

Epigeum

All research students, who enrolled on a research degree from summer 2016, are required to take an online training course in Research Integrity before they reach the Transfer stage of their doctoral study. The course has been developed by the higher education courseware designer, Epigeum and is designed to provide students with a better understanding of the obligations and responsibilities needed by today’s researchers, along with practical advice on how to deal with the complex situations in which they may find themselves. The course takes roughly 300 minutes to complete, via Epigeum online, and students can dip in and out of it as they wish, juggling training around already busy schedules.  Read the rest of this entry

Seminar: Erasmus + Project on Entrepreneurial Education: Feedback on Staff Mobility Project with Almaty Management University in Kazakhstan

AlmatyOn 27th April participants in an Erasmus+ Project for staff mobility are running a seminar to report on their visits to Almaty Management University in Kazakhstan. Gill Gourlay, Sandy MacDonald, Kathleen Mortimer, Lydia Selby, Yan Wang, & Rebecca Fakoussa will discuss how the project works and their experience in working within the Erasmus framework. Additionally, issues around the development of entrepreneurial education in Kazakhstan and the UK will be explored.

The seminar will take place on 27th April, from 13:00-14:00 in Cottesbrooke 319, Park Campus.  Please book here if you are interested in attending.
