Research Support Centre – Coffee Morning
Our Coffee Morning this month will be hosted from The Cottesbrooke Hub on the ground floor in the Faculty of Business and Law. Drop in anytime between 10.30am-12pm on Thursday, 17th May for a chat with the RSB team and find out about the funding opportunities and support we can provide. Charlotte Patrick, Key Sector and Knowledge Transfer Manager will be on hand to offer her guidance and experience on working with businesses. Nick Dimmock, Research Information Specialist, LLS will also be available and can help on various topics including referencing and NECTAR.
Refreshments, nice biscuits and friendly advice are always on offer.

Invitation to the Annual Research Student Poster Competition 2018!
The Graduate School would like to invite you to their Annual Research Student Poster Competition 2018 on Tuesday 22nd May 2018, 10:45am to 2pm, in the Dialog Cafe, ground floor of Rockingham Library, Park Campus. The poster competition is a development opportunity for doctoral research students, who present their research on an A1 poster, giving short 1-1 verbal presentations alongside. Alicia de Barry: Childhood, Femininity and Masculinity in Andrew Lang’s Fairy Tale Series (1889 – 1910), on 9th May at 10-11am in MR34 (Maidwell Building, Avenue Campus).
Hawa Khan: Islamic perspective on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Challenges and Experience of caregivers of children with ASD in the Muslim Community in an East Midlands city. on the 16th May from 12-1pm in S036 (Sulgrave Building, Park Campus).

YES Competition 2018
YES 2018 competition will be taking place this autumn.The call for applications is now open. YES is designed to develop business awareness and an understanding of entrepreneurship in UK postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. This goal is achieved through a competition in which those participating prepare a business plan for a hypothetical company. Full details about this competition and how to apply, please see the link.
UnityDem Competition – Opportunity to win a Dream House for £5
A Northampton man who feels passionately about improving dementia care in the town has entered his home into a ‘Win a House’ competition. The four bedroom town house is located across the road from Abington Park and worth £600,000. Marty Pumbien and his partner Annie are hoping to sell the maximum number of 500,000 tickets. Part of the proceeds from the competition will help fund the UnityDem Centre, co-run by the University of Northampton. Entry fee is £5 for a raffle ticket and the competition closes at midnight on the 14th October.

Need advice on making that all important connection with businesses? Charlotte Patrick, Key Sector and Knowledge Transfer Manager, will be on hand at our next Coffee Morning to offer her guidance and experience on working with businesses. The RSB team will also be joined by Dawn Hibbert, Head of Research Support, LLS to answer any questions you may have on open access, research data management and of course, REF 2021 and Impact. This is a great opportunity to find out more on the kind of support and opportunities that are available.
Please drop in anytime between 10.30am-12pm on Wednesday, 18th April in the Top Lodge Conservatory on Park Campus. Hot beverages along with lovely biscuits will also be on offer.

Finding the Right Funder
This interactive workshop is designed to help you navigate the funding landscape and will cover topics such as identifying the main sources of funding and winning tactics on how to increase your chance of success. Facilitated by Karen Lewis, Bidding Manager for the Research and Strategic Bidding Office, the session is ideal if you have specific research ideas and would like help in finding external funding.

For those of you based at Avenue, you’ll be pleased to know we are hosting our next Coffee Morning in the Newton Café on Wednesday, 21st March.
Helen Backhouse from the RSB team will be joined by Dr Ali Al-Sherbaz, Research Leader for FAST and Dawn Hibbert, Head of Research Support, LLS. They will be on hand to help with any specific research issues from the FAST academics and answer any questions you may have on REF 2021 and Impact. Or perhaps you need some advice on a funding application or guidance on our Gateway Haplo Funding system. Drop in anytime between 10.30am-12pm.
