Invitation to the Annual Research Student Poster Competition 2018!
The Graduate School would like to invite you to their Annual Research Student Poster Competition 2018 on Tuesday 22nd May 2018, 10:45am to 2pm, in the Dialog Cafe, ground floor of Rockingham Library, Park Campus. The poster competition is a development opportunity for doctoral research students, who present their research on an A1 poster, giving short 1-1 verbal presentations alongside. Transfer seminars coming up soon!
Alicia de Barry and Hawa Khan are having their transfer seminars soon, please do go and support them, details are below.
Alicia de Barry: Childhood, Femininity and Masculinity in Andrew Lang’s Fairy Tale Series (1889 – 1910), on 9th May at 10-11am in MR34 (Maidwell Building, Avenue Campus).
Hawa Khan: Islamic perspective on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Challenges and Experience of caregivers of children with ASD in the Muslim Community in an East Midlands city. on the 16th May from 12-1pm in S036 (Sulgrave Building, Park Campus).

YES Competition 2018
YES 2018 competition will be taking place this autumn.The call for applications is now open. YES is designed to develop business awareness and an understanding of entrepreneurship in UK postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. This goal is achieved through a competition in which those participating prepare a business plan for a hypothetical company. Full details about this competition and how to apply, please see the link.
Facilitated Writing Retreat Workshops
Following the very positive feedback we got after our first facilitated writing retreat ran last December, The Graduate School is organizing another 5 week programme on structured writing retreats with mini-workshops. Whether you are in an early stage of your research or you are writing up your final thesis, you are warmly invited to come along to this very friendly and supportive environment, have some free lunch and get your research thoughts and ideas written!
Volunteering and Internships for Students
If you are passionate about volunteering work, then visit GoEco website to see the expert volunteer and internship opportunities available for students. These projects provide students with real-world experience in a hands-on, interactive learning environment. Participants can also strengthen their CV, gain new perspectives in the field, and build professional networks.

Grounded Theory Forum, 06 February 2018, Sulgrave S017
Alasdair Gordon-Finlayson will be leading a discussion on ‘Theoretical sampling’ on Tuesday 6th Feb at 1pm in Sulgrave S017. This is a great opportunity for researchers using GT to learn more about this important key component of grounded theory. SPSS workshops for Postgraduate Researchers
The SPSS 1 beginner’s workshop is now rescheduled for Monday 18th Dec from 2-4pm in the IT Training Room. This workshop is facilitated by Paul Rice and has two parts; the follow on workshop will be held on 8th January 2018 from 10-12. Please note that you need to have attended part one (or have the appropriate skills in SPSS) to attend part two. There will be homework to do between the two workshops.

Images of Research: deadline extended to 29th November
If you haven’t entered Images of Research yet but wanted to, then we are pleased to announce that we have extended the deadline for submitting your image, summary and title. Don’t miss out on your chance to raise your research profile, engage a public audience and disseminate your research in an annual event that challenges all researchers, including postgraduate research students and academics, to illustrate their work with just one unique image. The submission deadline has been extended to Wednesday 29th November 2017.
