Second prize winner of the 2014 UN Graduate School poster competition
On the 7th May, at our Annual Poster Competition, Clare won a second prize of £75 for her poster entitled “Britain’s Bunny Problem: It’s not all black and white…” Clare is a postgraduate researcher in the School of Science & Technology and is based at Moulton College. Her research interests are in the field and animal welfare assessment using behavioural and other non-invasive measures within zoos and other captive animal settings. Read the rest of this entry
Graduate School Update Day – Free food AND two workshops!
It’s time again for the Graduate School’s Update Day, which will run throughout the morning of Tuesday 17th June and include, as usual, Danish pastries for breakfast AND a free lunch! And, this year, we are offering supervisors, research students and researchers in the University TWO workshops, one looking at Supervision and how our past experiences influence our expectations of the supervisory process. And a second workshop which will facilitate a discussion on how we might improve the University’s Research Degrees Code of Practice. If you are free, book your place and come along to contribute to some very interesting discussions.
Using Eventbrite for booking Graduate School workshops and events.
Graduate School workshops and events, for research students and early-career researchers, are administered through a booking system called Eventbrite. So I thought it time for a post outlining the booking process. Each individual event or workshop has its own booking code, a Web link, which looks something like this – http://gsannconf2014.eventbrite.co.uk/. PGR Annual Conference 2014: Abstract deadline June 4th!
The University of Northampton Graduate School are holding their 2014 Postgraduate Researcher Conference on June 26th and the deadline for abstracts is Weds June 4th. Any UN postgraduate research student and early career researcher who would like to present their research should email a title and an abstract (ca. 150 words), outlining their research and its context, to Simone Apel. Researcher’s presentations should be 10 minutes long, with 5 minutes allocated for questions. We expect to have about 16 sessions running throughout the day, with lunch. Read the rest of this entry

New Doctoral Research Student ‘Lunch Breaks’!
The research student community is planning monthly informal meetings over lunch to share ideas and problems, network… or just chat. The group meetings have been instigated by research student Anna Maria Everding, from the School of the Arts, as a chance for peer support and as a response to feelings of isolation that research students can face. Professor Edmund White lectures at a special event at UoN on 27th May
The School of the Arts invite you to a very special event in the third-term series of English Literature and Creative Writing events at the University of Northampton.
Professor Edmund White will speak on ‘My Life in Creative Writing: from Forgetting Elena (1973) to Inside a Pearl (2014)’ in the Grand Hall, Newton Building on Tuesday 27th May 2014, at 14.30. This event has limited capacity, and is open to the public as well as to all students and other members of the University.
