Research seminar – Conservation ecology of West Africa’s montane forest habitats – seed dispersers and their substitutes.

Dr Hazel Chapman, Associate Professor at the University of Canterbury (UC) New Zealand, will be visiting the University of Northampton to talk about the Nigerian Montane Forest Project (NMFP), introducing the NMFP and presenting research aimed at understanding how seed dispersal processes are changing in response to forest fragmentation and hunting. Reith lectures series seminar

PLEASE NOTE, THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED IN JANUARY 2017.
The Reith lectures have been the BBC’s flagship annual lecture series since 1948 and are broadcast on BBC Radio 4, presented by Sue Lawley since 2002. This year the theme is ‘Identity’.
Dr Dave Burnapp, in English and Creative Writing, has organised a discussion seminar on the Reith Lectures four themes – Creed, Colour, Country and Culture – on Tuesday 29th November at 14:00 (venue to be confirmed). Psychology Research Seminar on 26th October

Invitation to transfer seminars (Faculty of Business and Law)
The Faculty of Business and Law invite all our research staff and supervisors, PGR students and all those interested to two transfer seminars, happening next week in C227. PGR student, Louise Atkinson, is presenting at 1pm on Tuesday 4th October on “The Role of Community Influences on Socially Responsible Activity within SMEs”. Research project management in science and technology event

Island Biology Conference seminars – you heard them here first.
You are cordially invited to a research seminar on Tuesday 12th July @1100 in Newton NW205. Duncan McCollin and Jeff Ollerton from the School of Science and Technology will be presenting two short seminars, which they will present later in July at a conference in the Azores.
Jeff and Duncan will be attending the Island Biology conference and each presenting these short (c. 15 minute) talks on recent research findings.

Lauren Samet to present in Soapbox Science Milton Keynes on Saturday 9th July
From Exeter to Edinburgh, Manchester to Milton Keynes, women scientists will be taking to their soapboxes in popular public spaces such as parks, high streets and beaches to share their passion for science with the public.
University of Northampton research student, Lauren Samet, is taking part in Soapbox Science 2016 in Milton Keynes on Saturday. Soapbox Science is a series of events, organised by Bristol University, where female scientists talk about their research to the general public to get them interested in science and try to break some of the stereotypes that science is a male dominated industry.
It’s a free event and open to all. Lauren’s talk will be on Nutraceutical Use in Animal Welfare. Read the rest of this entry

A Review of Selected Inorganic Surface Water Quality Monitoring Practices — Do We Really Know What We’re Doing?
This seminar, hosted by the Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences, is presented by Professor Art Horowitz, formerly of the United States Geological Survey. Art is a brilliant speaker and has a lifetime’s experience designing monitoring networks for the US government so the seminar promises to be both interesting and fun.
