Research Internship Opportunity

Currently, there is limited evidence of the impact of engaging in, and completing, NHS Digital Badges on children, young people and their teachers. The focus of the evaluation will be to investigate the psychosocial impact of NHS Digital Badges on children and young people and teachers within a primary school setting.

Aims are to:

  1. explore children and young people’s experiences of engaging in, and completing, digital badges;
  2. investigate the psychosocial effects of participating/completing digital badges with peers and teachers.

Researchers – ever fancied starting your own business?

Dr Hiten Vyas, Business Adviser at the University’s Enterprise Club is running a new workshop on starting your own business, especially for the Graduate School, on Monday 11th January in the TPod, Rockingham Library from 1:30-3:30pm.

Aimed at research students and early career researchers, the workshop will cover the key topics to enable you to put together your first business plan. For anyone starting a business, your business plan acts as a unique roadmap to help start and develop your business and is also an essential tool if you intend to look for financial investment.

New year’s resolutions: new skills anyone?

Happy new year to all from The Graduate School.

mature students photoIf you’re a Postgraduate Research Student how about making a new year’s resolution to focus more on your skills development. What knowledge or ability do you need to develop in 2016 to support your research degree? And what about your future career? Don’t wait until you’ve nearly finished your doctorate before you focus on that!

All the skills development workshops provided by the Graduate School (and the individual School’s discipline based programmes) are free to Northampton PGRs, so why not tap into them and learn some new skills to help support your doctoral studies and your career. Many workshops are also open to early career researchers working at the University.

Discipline-related research skills from the School of Social Sciences

SchoolsocscienceThe School of Social Sciences offers a programme of multidisciplinary training workshops. Subject-specific training and support is also offered via a diverse range of specialist research groups. Their programme is open to all PGRs at the University of Northampton.

Discipline-related research skills from the School of Health: open to all

research croppedThe School of Health have recently launched their discipline-related development programme, which includes a range of workshops and seminars on a variety of themes, open to all PGRs at the University of Northampton. This development programme has been designed to support researchers – and those supporting research – in subjects which relate, broadly, to Health and Social Care. The sessions detailed are available to research students (PhD and Professional Doctorate) within the School of Health and from across the University. Staff from the School and further afield are also welcome. Workshop on public involvement in health and social care

A workshop on effective public involvement, organised by the School of Health, is to be opened out to all research students and early career researchers.  The session is running on Wednesday December 2nd from 2-4 in PY101 and aims to provide an introduction to the principles, concepts and methods for effective public involvement (PI), participation and engagement. The workshop is to be facilitated by Paula Wray, Public Involvement Programme Lead for the National Institute of Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care East Midlands (NIHR CLAHRC EM).  Read the rest of this entry
