LLS – Everyone a Researcher Conference
Excited to announce that bookings are now open for our bi-annual LLS (Library and Learning Services) conference.
This year’s conference is entitled “Everyone a Researcher”
It will be LLS’s last conference at Park Campus where we hope to say goodbye in style, whilst also looking forward with anticipation, and welcoming in our new beginnings at Waterside.
LLS Conference 2018 will showcase the research undertaken by Library and Learning Services’ staff and demonstrate the inclusive and collaborative nature of the projects completed.
The theme for the LLS Conference 2018 is “Everyone a Researcher” and with this in mind, the conference will incorporate various formats such as traditional research papers, works in progress, a panel session and workshops as well as the now legendary minute madness. These will be delivered by staff members from across all LLS teams!
LLS Conference 2018 also welcomes on board our new Head of Research Support Dawn Hibbert, as well as our new visiting Professor, Professor Susannah Quinsee. We are extremely fortunate to have their additional professional input into our research community here in LLS, and of course, the University of Northampton as a whole.
So please do join us, for what looks to be our best conference yet. Help us to celebrate LLS research, present and future, as we begin to prepare for our Waterside adventure, and boldly go, where no Library and Learning Services department has gone before!

Without End: Documents of Research – Final call for papers.
A new symposium and exhibition, ‘Without End: Documents of Research‘, is to be held at Avenue Gallery on 16 February 2018. This unique event will reflect on the research process, of being in research and the documents which facilitate and inform it. If you are a postgraduate researcher or an early career researcher why not submit a paper or document? A document might be a notebook, soil sample, post-it note or statistical data or something else which you feel is or has been a source of ideas and inspiration for your research.
If you are interested please send an abstract of up to 300 words for a 20-minute oral presentation or images/descriptions of documents which you would like to be exhibited, along with a short biography, all as an email attachment to withoutend2018@gmail.com. by 1st November 2017. Graduate School’s Annual Postgraduate Research Conference 2017
Connected Communities: Diversity at UoN was the theme of the Graduate School’s annual Postgraduate Research Conference which was held on 19th September 2017. The conference was an excellent opportunity for research students from every stage in the doctoral process to share, discuss and network with other research students and supervisors from across the University. The key note address was given by UoN Chair of the Board of Governors, Andrew Scarborough who said he was impressed with the breadth and variety of research. Read the rest of this entry

In advance of our 14th September Postgraduate Researcher Conference, The Graduate School has asked Dr Adair Richards, trainer, broadcaster and consultant, to facilitate conference skills and 3 Minute Thesis training for our researchers. Even if you are not presenting at our conference, learning these skills is immensely valuable to you as a researcher and Adair is a master of teaching presentation techniques. Call for Papers from PGRs – September 2017 Conferences
The East Midlands Doctoral Network (EMDoc) would like to invite PGR students to submit an abstract for a paper or poster to their Postgraduate Research Conference. This year conference will be hosted at the University of Nottingham and is a great opportunity to promote students’ research, and meet and network with other postgraduate research students from around the East Midlands. The conference will be held on the 13th September which is the day before the University of Northampton PGR/ ECR conference. So, aiming at encouraging our students to communicate their research both in internal and external settings, and seeking to help them improve their presentation skills, the Graduate School is offering PGR students the opportunity of covering the expenses of their trip to Nottingham if they are also planning to present in the PGR/ECR conference in Northampton. The Graduate School’s Postgraduate Research Conference rescheduled to September 14th.
The Graduate School Research Conference 2016
The University of Northampton Graduate School’s 2017 annual Postgraduate Researcher Conference for PGR students and early career researchers will now be held on Thursday September 14th 2017.
Originally scheduled for 20th June, the reschedule to September enables an important addition to the programme – the Graduate School’s first 3MT competition. Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) was originally developed by The University of Queensland in Australia and celebrates the exciting research conducted by PhD students around the world. The competition helps to cultivate students’ presentation and research communication skills. Presenting in a 3MT competition increases student’s capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. Competitors are only allowed one PowerPoint slide, but no other resources or props. Read the rest of this entry
