Are you a researcher in the field of social sciences or the arts?

conferenceroomTwo conferences are calling for papers from doctoral researchers and research students.

In the Arts “Re-Contested Sites/Sights” Research Conference”, organised by the University of the Arts in London, are calling for papers on the theme of spaces of re-contestation. The conference will be held on May 8th and submission deadline for papers is March 8th.

In the Social Sciences, the Portuguese Association of Economic and Social History conference entitled State, Society and Markets in a Global World”  are calling for papers on the theme of the State’s role in the economic and social system. The conference in Portugal is on 15th and 16th November and paper proposals should be submitted by 31st May.

Another one bites the dust…

There are a number of potentially useful reference management tools on the web – Mendeley, CiteULike, Zotero and Connotea spring to mind.  The best of these offer a range of other services, such as full text uploads, social bookmarking and a variety of other networking opportunities for researchers.

But can you trust these sites? Will your data be secure and are you sure that you will be able to access them when you need to?

New Grounded Theory Forum

Dr Sarah Neill from the School of Health is setting up a University wide Grounded Theory Forum with colleagues from Education and Social Sciences.

Schoolhealth

The forum will meet approximately two to three times a year to discuss GT approaches, challenges and developments. Sarah envisages that this would interest those teaching grounded theory, researchers using grounded theory, post doc and doctoral students.
