Dust off your cameras, dig out your paintbrushes – Images of Research is back!
Images from the 2014-15 competition
It’s time for the call for research images, so why not take part in the Graduate School’s 2015-16 Images of Research competition? If you are a researcher at the University of Northampton, grab your camera or paintbrush and produce a unique image which captures the essence of your research, or an element of your research, in a visual, artistic or photographic way. Top that off with a snappy title and 150 word summary and that is all you need to do to participate.
This years IoR will, again, be a competition, where viewers can vote for their top three favourites. Entries for IoR 2015-16 must be emailed to Simone by November 6th 2015. Read on for the rules…

Workshop – Open Access: the implications for your research
If you are a researcher, whether a research student or research staff, it is important that you understand the implication of open access, where research papers are made freely available online, rather than published in high-cost subscription journals. The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) announced last year that all post April-2016 UK research must be open access in order to qualify for funding assessments.
In the light of this, Dr Miggie Pickton and Nick Dimmock from LLS are holding a 2 hour workshop on Open Access on Thursday, 12 March from 15:00 to 17:00 in the TPod, Rockingham Library, Park Campus. Images of Research 2014-15: Vote for 3 favourites
The Images of Research exhibition is now open in the Avenue Gallery corridor and will stay there until February 27th 2015. After this it will travel to Park Campus, to be displayed on the ground floor of Rockingham Library from the 9th to 23rd March, then at Avenue Library entrance after Easter.

Following on nicely from our last Hub post, Jobs.ac.uk is holding a Google+ Hangout on Tuesday 27th January at 12 noon, on integrating digital media, blogs, apps and social media into your academic practice. The session will help you learn how to use digital tools to give you a competitive advantage, great for your CV and for public engagement and networking.

Wine and other refreshments will be on offer, so come along and see this year’s fabulous research photographs and illustrations – and vote for your top three favourites!

Some images from IoR 2013
Images of Research is back! So charge up your cameras, or dust off your sketchbooks, and come up with an image which captures the essence of your research in a visual, artistic or photographic way.
This years IoR will be a ‘gentle’ competition, where viewers can vote for their top three favourites – a people’s choice you might say! Entries for IoR 2014 must be submitted by November 6th 2014.
