Palgrave journals: free trial until end of March
The Library has just signed up to the latest Palgrave ‘Access all areas‘ trial – giving you access to all Palgrave journal articles until the end of March. Subject areas covered include a range of business and social sciences (full list here).
To take advantage of this trial:
New resource: Emerging Markets Case Studies

We now have access to 250 ‘Emerging Markets’ case studies on the Emerald database. Our new subscription includes perpetual access to all of the 2014 reports and also an archive back to 2011. These reports cover a range of subject areas including Entrepreneurship, International Business, HRM, Management Science, Marketing, Strategy and Tourism and Hospitality. Each case study comes with notes for teachers, which may be accessed via a separate login (teaching staff please contact your librarian for details).
New(ish) resources from the Library

Taylor & Francis Online is the journal content platform for the Taylor & Francis Group. The platform gives online access to all journals from Taylor & Francis and Routledge. A program of retrodigitization means we have articles going back just over 200 years. Including over 1600 full text titles in Science and Social Science literature this database is a key resource for researchers. Take a look at the short user guide or to access the Taylor and Francis journals directly go to the library’s A-Z list of databases.

Elsevier takes down papers from Academia.edu
Over the weekend there has been a burst of activity in the social media as authors respond to a flurry of take-down notices sent by Elsevier to Academia.edu on Friday. Elsevier have asked for some 2800 final published versions of their papers to be removed from the social networking site.
DOIs and Enhancing the Learner Experience in Higher Education
I mentioned in a previous post that the University had recently registered with CrossRef to allow us to allocate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to published articles.
Our first use of these has been within Enhancing the Learner Experience in Higher Education (ELEHE), the university’s first open journal. Each issue of the journal now has a DOI, as does each article within the issue. For example:

Open Access Button – breaking down paywalls
Launched on Monday, the Open Access Button is a great new tool for finding open access copies of research articles and at the same time raise awareness and gather evidence of the impact of paywalls on scholarship worldwide.

British Library Doctoral Open Days
It’s that time of year again… the British Library are once again advertising their open days for new doctoral students. This is your opportunity to learn about the British Library’s unique research collections and how to access them.
This year the dates and subjects on offer are as follows:
Interlibrary loans: online requests now available

Library and Learning Services has launched a new online interlibrary loan form, making it quicker and easier for you to apply for and receive Interlibrary Loans. Using the new form you can submit online requests for books and journal articles for your personal use. To use the form, just follow the Inter Library Loan link from the Library catalogue and login with your usual library account details (user name and four digit PIN).
Introducing the Skills Hub
A message from Georgina Dimmock, Head of Academic Liaison in Library and Learning Services:
The Skills Hub is a new open access resource from Library and Learning Services containing videos, guides, interactive tutorials and blog posts on study skills topics. The material covers an array of levels and is for use by students, schools, researchers and the community. Academic staff are welcome to link from within NILE to specific materials on the Skills Hub. Library staff will also be publicising and tweeting links to timely resources on the hub at targeted points throughout year.
