Academy Scholarship Competition 2014
The Institute of Ideas Academy Scholarship Programme offers a small number of full time students (any academic discipline) attendance tickets for the three-day annual Academy weekend for only £60, which includes three nights accommodation, full board & an events programme! The Institute of Ideas Academy is a residential retreat running from Friday 18 July to Monday 21 July, in which you can be unashamedly esoteric and intellectual for a weekend. There are three parallel lecture series on Classics, Literature and History as well as a plenary History of Ideas series on moral thought. Research Seminars and Associate Professor Lectures continue…
Following Mike Starr’s sterling start to the research seminar series in January, on Thursday 6th February at 6pm in MY120 Avenue Campus, we will be welcoming novelist and film-maker, Alistair Fruish to the School of the Arts. Alistair who is a member of the Writers-in-Prison Network will be discussing his novel Kiss My Asbo, which has been recommended by Graphic Novelist, Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta).
OWING TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES, ALISTAIR FRUISH’S EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED BUT WE HOPE TO RESCHEDULE IT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Call for papers from Postgraduate Research Students
The Sheffield Institute for International Development (SIID) has announced the call for papers from UK postgraduate students for the SIID 5th Annual PG Conference, which will be held at the University of Sheffield on Tuesday 25th March 2014. Moulton College Postgraduate Research Symposium
The Moulton College Postgraduate Research Symposium will take place this year on Friday 13th December from 2:00 – 4:15pm. All staff from Moulton College and the University of Northampton are welcome. Throughout the afternoon there will be eight speakers and papers include ““Initial findings on the reproductive success and survival of harvest mice post release.“ and “Developments in human cryotherapy research at Moulton College.” Coffee/tea, mince pies and networking will follow at 4:15pm. The event will be held in P9, the lecture theatre at the Pitsford site (gate 4).

A visit to the 10th International Congress of Plant Pathology 2013 in Beijing

August 2013 marked the meeting of the 10th International Congress of Plant Pathology. A travel grant awarded by the British Society of Plant Pathology enabled me to join these researchers and get involved in a pre-congress workshop on Phythophora, Pythium and related genera. Many researchers, all with an important message, flocked to Beijing International Conference Centre to share experiences and ideas. Read the rest of this entry
School of the Arts Scholars Attend International Conference on Diaspora Studies in Germany
Professor Janet Wilson, Dr Larissa Allwork and CoHaB funded PhD student, Sarah Knor attended the international conference of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network on ‘Diasporic Constructions of Home and Belonging’ (CoHaB) at WWU Muenster in Germany (22nd – 24th September 2013).
SOTA Postgraduate Conference, 19-20 September 2013
We are delighted to announce the final programme for the annual School of the Arts Postgraduate Conference 2013. This event will feature presentations by our doctoral students; keynote lectures by Professor David Crouch (The University of Derby) and Paul Cureton (The University of Hertfordshire) as well as a poetry reading by Winner of the 2012 New Zealand Post Book Award for Poetry, Rhian Gallagher.
