PGR Annual Conference 2014: Abstract deadline June 4th!
The University of Northampton Graduate School are holding their 2014 Postgraduate Researcher Conference on June 26th and the deadline for abstracts is Weds June 4th. Any UN postgraduate research student and early career researcher who would like to present their research should email a title and an abstract (ca. 150 words), outlining their research and its context, to Simone Apel. Researcher’s presentations should be 10 minutes long, with 5 minutes allocated for questions. We expect to have about 16 sessions running throughout the day, with lunch. Read the rest of this entry

Professor Edmund White lectures at a special event at UoN on 27th May
The School of the Arts invite you to a very special event in the third-term series of English Literature and Creative Writing events at the University of Northampton.
Professor Edmund White will speak on ‘My Life in Creative Writing: from Forgetting Elena (1973) to Inside a Pearl (2014)’ in the Grand Hall, Newton Building on Tuesday 27th May 2014, at 14.30. This event has limited capacity, and is open to the public as well as to all students and other members of the University. Preparing for Patient & Public Involvement in Research: Workshop
The University of Salford, Manchester are running a training workshop for researchers, research managers, clinicians and other research staff in “Public Involvement” on Wednesday 25th June.

Hugh Kearns’ books for researchers now in the library!
Earlier in the year the Graduate School were given the opportunity to host a day of workshops for Research Students and Supervisors called “The Seven Secrets of Successful Research Students”, led by Australian researcher developer, Hugh Kearns. Hugh regularly lectures at universities across the world, including Oxford, Harvard and Stanford and has published a number of books on the subject of completing a doctorate.
Two of his books will shortly be available in the University Library – “Seven Secrets of Highly Successful Research Students” and “Turbocharge your Writing”. Both books are packed full of tips and valuable recommendations, to help research students progress through their research degree.
Research Students are holding another PhD lunch this Thursday 29th May at 12.30pm in the backroom of the Avenue restaurant. Bring your own lunch, come along and join your colleagues from different Schools.
