FREE Vitae ‘entrepreneurship’ workshop in Bristol
“Charting an entrepreneurial career: how researchers can control their professional destiny” is a free day-long event open to postgraduate researchers and research staff. It is being held on the 9th April at the University of Bristol and is sponsored by the Entrepreneurial Institution.
Wherever you are in your research career, whether you are applying for research funding, moving into a new career or starting your own business (commercial or social) this day will enable you to understand your enterprising potential to create impact through research and take your ideas into a business.
During the day you will explore your own skills in relation to entrepreneurship
- explore research impact in relation to grant applications and REF
- explore different types of enterprise
- hear from successful entrepreneurs
- hear about social enterprise, commercialisation and knowledge exchange
- network and plan next steps

Workshop for lecturers on Aspire reading lists
If you are engaged in teaching students at UoN and giving students reading lists, these workshops may be of interest to you. Further dates will be added and published here.
Library and Learning Services is offering workshops at Avenue on the Aspire Reading List Software on Feb 26th and March 4th (see below for details and times). Aspire is a piece of software that enables you to create an online reading list with direct links through to full text articles, websites, e-books and items on the library catalogue. You can also link to Aspire from within NILE. To sign up, please email the session leader running the workshop.
Aspire workshops will last an hour and you will be shown how Aspire works as well as being able to have a go at creating your own Aspire reading list. If you have a real reading list you’d like to put online, bring it along and we can work on it during the workshop. There will also be an extra half an hour at the end of the session, with a member of the LLS Academic Liaison Team on hand to help, for anyone who wants to stay and work on their reading list.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.

Alan Ayckbourn play at Royal & Derngate on Monday 25th March
As part of the Summer School for the Marie Curie funded Consortium Constructions of Home and Belonging (CoHaB) being hosted by the School of Arts from 21 to 27 March, we are inviting all the delegates to a theatre event at the Royal and Derngate on Monday 25th March, This is to see a new Alan Ayckbourn play, Mr Whatnot.
There may be some tickets over (at £11.00) each and if you would be interested in attending as one of the party, can you let Janet Wilson and Larissa Allwork know — we will treat htis on a first come, first served basis.
Please get back to them by Sunday 24th February at the very latest, as we have to let the theatre know about the pre booked tickets as to how many we actually need.

Yet, with the growing complexity and demands on research collaborations, daily challenges have increased significantly. At stake here are innovation, societal and research impact of science, as well as the research efficiency, motivation, inspiration, fulfillment, employability and well-being of researchers.

Vitae presents an intensive two-day professional development and Collaborative Learning Lab for scientists on
Thursday 17 & Friday 18 January 2013 in Oxford. The event will offer cutting edge insights and hands-on tools in building effective and fulfilling collaborations, research groups and knowledge-exchange partnerships.

Forum report: IMD and Grosvenor Business Forum in October
Nadeem Khan, PhD student from NBS attended the IMD and Grosvenor Business Forum on 15th October 2012 at which IMD President Dominique Turpin presented – “Leading with a Global Mindset”. The forum was attended by delegates from Industry along with IMD alumni and invited guests.
The essence of the Key Note speech highlighted the critical difference between international and global firms and identified global leaders as being/or having 8 traits: Open minded, sensitivity and empathy, the ability to connect, respect for others, cultural curiosity, multi-lingual, willingness to experiment, cosmopolitan.
