Workshop: Preparing Bids for Small Grants
Aims of the workshop:
This workshop supports all staff who wish to develop their skills at preparing small bids. However, this event is specifically aimed at staff who wish to apply for the Learning Enhancement and Innovation Fund (deadline: 22 September).

The Graduate School PGR and ECR Skills Development Programme 2014-15
This Hub Post is a permanent link to the 2014-15 Generic Skills Development Programme. This year the Programme has been designed for Postgraduate Research Students (PGRs) and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and is available via the links below.
This year we have over 40 workshops, one Development Day every month and six events to take part in. Many thanks for all the feedback we had on last year’s programme.
Some additional workshops may be added, along with some inevitable changes to the programme, so do make sure you come back here regularly for the most up-to-date information. Workshops and events will be advertised via UN email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and on NILE RES001. Do email me for further information or if you have any questions.

Do you know how to argue?!
Argument mapping (AM) is an innovative technique for visualizing arguments. AM helps individuals and groups to reach better decisions. AM can also be used in educational settings to promote a deeper understanding of complex arguments and to develop critical thinking skills.
Dr Graham Smith is running an AM workshop for University of Northampton doctoral research students on Monday, 23 June 2014 from 16:00 to 18:00 in MY120, Avenue Research Centre, Avenue Campus. To book, or for more information, see the Eventbrite booking page.

‘Experiencing the doctorate’: A new workshop run by Northampton PhD alumni
Three University of Northampton alumni, Dr Matthew Callender (human geography), Dr Richard Hazenberg (Business) and Dr Fiona Cosson (History), who all recently completed a PhD, will be running a unique, interactive workshop for doctoral research students. “Experiencing the doctorate – Exploring strategies and emotions” will present students with an opportunity to share and discuss some of the different emotions experienced during doctoral study and help them develop strategies to successfully complete their journey. Analysing secondary data: new Graduate School workshop
A new quantitative methodology workshop for research students has been developed by a team from the School of Social Sciences and offered within the Graduate School Development Programme . “Analysing secondary data (quantitative): Going beyond the published results” has been designed by Catherine Fritz, Graham Smith, Chris Roe and Amar Cherchar. Graduate School workshops in February
We have a variety of Graduate School workshops coming up in February for research degree students.
We have 4 places left for Hugh Kearn’s Research Student workshop “Seven secrets” which will be held at Sunley Conference Centre next Tuesday 11th. Hugh Kearns is recognised internationally as a public speaker, educator and researcher and regularly lectures at universities across the world, including Oxford, Harvard and Stanford. Research students, please don’t miss this great opportunity.
