‘Opps for Apps’ Symposium (17 June 2015) will welcome mobile technology innovators Touchpress

Dr Sonya Andermahr and Dr David Simmons will be hosting the ‘Opps for Apps’ symposium on Wednesday 17 June 2015.  Sponsored by the Institute of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, this event will be a great opportunity to discuss the use of digital technologies such as apps in educational environments.  We are also very lucky to have two representatives of app design company Touchpress, Selam Zuru and Louise Rice addressing the symposium.

Finding Alternative Sources of Funding: Workshop for PGRs

Pound signAre you a postgraduate researcher at the University who is self-funded? If so, you might be interested in coming along to Lucy Atkinson’s new workshop, on Wednesday, 24 June 2015 from 16:00 to 18:00 in C311, Cottesbrooke, Park Campus. Lucy will show you possible routes to finding alternative sources of funding, whether for fees, maintenance, research expenses, conferences or travel.

Lucy has been very successful in obtaining funding for her self-funded PhD and she would like to share the idea, requirements, documents and enthusiasm with you to try to help alleviate some financial pressure during your postgraduate studies. The workshop looks at a major, but neglected, alternative funding source in the area of charities and external bodies.  Read the rest of this entry

From ‘Memory Frictions’ to ‘Decolonizing Trauma’: May activities in the Trauma Research Group

May 2015 has seen Dr Larissa Allwork and Dr Sonya Andermahr, representatives of the CCN&CT’s Interdisciplinary Research Group in Trauma, Narrative & Performance participate in a major conference at the University of Zaragoza, Spain as well as hosting an international one-day symposium on ‘Decolonizing Trauma Studies’ at the University of Northampton School of the Arts.

The first, at The University of Birmingham on 9th June, is Part-Time Researcher, for students in the early stages of their research and will focus on the ethos and process of part-time research; Working with your Supervisor, Time Management and Making Progress, Forward Planning and Objective Setting.

If you are in  the final 18 months of your PhD or doctorate, the Part Time Researcher Finishing Workshop on 22 June at the Open University in Milton Keynes is for you. This includes sections on Editing, Preparing for the Viva, and Publishing.

Transfer Seminar invitation: 3rd June

RedCrossNurseJacquie Ridge, PhD student in the School of Health, is presenting her Transfer Seminar on Wednesday, 3rd June at 9:30am – 11:30am. The seminar is entitled “Saving lives and saving money: investigating the professional identity of adult nursing” and will be held in Room 202, Kelmarsh, Park Campus. All welcome.

Seminar overview: Professional identity in adult nursing is a complex concept lacking clear definition. A struggle for recognition is occurring concurrently with dramatic changes within healthcare, its education, workforce and provision. By investigating construction and sustainability of professional identity in adult nursing with those currently undertaking their nurse education, this study offers an opportunity to discover an authentic way of knowing this evolving profession to inform its future development. On Thursday 3rd September, the University of Lincoln Graduate School will be hosting the 2015 East Midlands University Association (EMUA) postgraduate research student conference.
