Lunchtime seminar: Communities for Ageing Populations in Canada and Brazil

The Institute for Heath and Wellbeing are holding a lunchtime seminar on Wednesday 14 January at Sunley Conference Centre. Professor Judith Sixsmith and Maria Mascolli, a visting PhD student from Brazil, are presenting on two community-based research studies on communities for ageing populations in Canada and Brazil.

Institute of Health and Wellbeing seminar on physical activity and sedentary time in children
The Institute of Health and Wellbeing presents:
Moderate/Vigorous Physical Activity and Sedentary Time in Children using Accelerometery Data
Wednesday 10th December 2014, 1-2pm, Sunley Conference Centre.
In this seminar, Dr. Sally Fenton will present a series of studies conducted as part of the European-wide Promoting Adolescent Physical Activity (PAPA) project. These studies have employed objective assessments of physical activity to examine a) levels of physical activity engagement among children active in the context of organised sport and b) psychosocial factors influencing levels of physical activity engagement and sedentary time in this cohort.

State of the Commons: a 12th anniversary Creative Commons report
Creative Commons licences – a set of ready-made licences creators can apply to their work to enable and encourage sharing and reuse – are 12 years old in December, and the Creative Commons team have produced a great infographic detailing the current state of the commons. A full report looking to the future is also available – both are well worth your time, and do remember that if you’re adding your research output to NECTAR, Creative Commons licensing of uploaded material is supported – contact the NECTAR team (nectar@northampton.ac.uk) for help and advice.
RefWorks update
Just a brief note to say we’ve made some changes to the Harvard UoN citation style in RefWorks (some minor corrections and improved support for audio recording citations), so if you use the Harvard UoN for your bibliography you’ll need to add it to your list of output styles again.

The afternoon will involve talks from our current PhD students as well as some of our staff speaking on developments within their area. The event will start with a buffet lunch at 12.30pm and talks will begin at 1.30pm (see attached poster for schedule and further information). The symposium is being held at our Pitsford Site (gate 4 of the main campus).
