Research Support Hub: 2015 in review
A very Happy New Year to all our readers!
We’ve just received the WordPress 2015 annual report for the Research Support Hub.
There are some intriguing (if of dubious value) stats:
- The Hub’s busiest day was February 5th, with 448 views (mostly accounted for by Images of Research voting)
- The most popular day of the week for posting was Thursday (with 59 posts)
- The 2015-2016 PGR and ECR skills development programme attracted the most views in 2015, with Increasing your citation count and SPSS software now available in 2nd and 3rd place
- Facebook was the Hub’s top referring site
- Visitors came from 148 countries

BIS announces review of the REF
“Universities and Science Minister Jo Johnson today (16 December 2015) launched a UK-wide review of university research funding to cut red tape so that universities can focus more on delivering the world-leading research for which the UK is renowned.
Following the decision to protect the £4.7 billion annual science and research budget in real terms during this Parliament, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) review will help ensure the government gets the most return from its investment.
The review will be chaired by the President of the British Academy and former World Bank Chief Economist Lord Nicholas Stern.”

2015-16 Changes to postgraduate research degree documentation
A number of changes have taken place to the regulations, policies, guidance and forms for postgraduate research (PGR) programmes. The student and supervisor toolkits now reflect all of the changes. This post will explain the changes and provide links to new content.
Research related committees – When are they and who are they?
Welcome to the 2015-16 cycle of committees (research degrees board, research degrees committee, research ethics committee)!
The committee dates and deadlines are now available in the supervisor toolkit and student toolkit.
It is also important that you know who the members of the committees are and what their roles are. You can find a listing below. Postgraduate Research students are reminded that RDB members are available for pastoral support (please see the PGR Code of Practice in the Student Toolkit for more information)

Professor Gina Wisker announced as keynote for SOTA Postgraduate Conference!
We are very pleased to announce that this year’s School of The Arts Postgraduate Conference (15th -16th September 2015) will feature a keynote lecture from Professor Gina Wisker (The University of Brighton).
New Book: ‘Holocaust Remembrance between the National and the Transnational’
I am pleased to say that my book. ‘Holocaust Remembrance between the National and the Transnational’ will be released on 30 July 2015. I held my launch for the book as part of the British Association of Holocaust Studies conference at the University of Birmingham (21-22 July 2015). The Graduate School and the Research and Strategic Bidding Office are moving
We are delighted to announce that the Graduate School and Research and Strategic Bidding Office are moving to be together in the new Research Support Centre in Top Lodge at Park Campus. The move will take place in the week beginning Monday 20th July. As a result, our offices will be closed on Monday 20th July. The RSBO will move into Top Lodge on Wednesday 22nd July and the Graduate School will move on Thursday 23rd July. During the moving week we may not be able to provide the full range of support but we will be up and running at full strength from Monday 27th July so do drop in and see us in our new home. We will be announcing new events and support available shortly.
TLS Coverage as Programme Announced for International Brigid Brophy Conference!
The English Division at the University of Northampton School of the Arts is very pleased to announce the full programme for the forthcoming Brigid Brophy conference on 9th and 10th October 2015. In the words of Professor Richard Canning, organizer of the conference, the event will, “celebrate all aspects of Brophy’s literary career, as well as her leading contributions to animal rights, vegetarianism, anti-vivisectionism, humanism, feminist politics and advocacy of the Public Lending Right.” Already gathering positive publicity in this week’s Times Literary Supplement (10 July 2015), the conference will feature keynote lectures by author of The Northern Clemency and The Emperor Waltz, Professor Philip Hensher (Bath Spa University), Goldsmiths Senior Lecturer in Modern Literature, Dr Carole Ann Sweeney and British writer, psychologist, and animal rights advocate, Dr Richard Ryder.
